*AUTHOR’S NOTE – My husband and I will be retiring soon, and we have decided to look around for a more relaxing and affordable retirement place outside of the US. As I researched through the internet, magazines and literatures, the Philippines caught my attention. This little country seemed to be the best place to retire to. The cost of living is affordable for us, and we love its tropical climate, plus the fact that it’s an English-speaking country and the people are American-friendly. We have agreed – our choice for our retirement is the Philippines! Now my goal is to study and analyze the best places in the Philippines where a retired American couple can spend their future retirement. I am sharing my researches for our planned retirement with you, and hope that my posts can also help you plan yours!
THE RETIREES AND THE INTERNET
In the course of my research, I realized that most of our fellow Americans, who have decided to retire in the Philippines, are heavily engaged in online activities. First, because it is through the internet that they communicate with their friends and families in the other side of the world. Actually, they have been doing this even before, because that was how they connected with some of their families who are on different US states. The only difference now is they are connecting from the Philippines, which is not really a big difference, internet-wise.
Second, for those who are not really active in sports and who are not outgoing, the internet is also a source for entertainment and fun. And this is why our friends in the Philippines are always online, playing games, checking various interesting sites, learning new things through the internet, etc.
And third, for those who are trying to add to their stash of cash, they use the internet to do business, to earn additional income. By law, retirees are not allowed to get employment in the Philippines, which is only fair. These leaves our friends to the internet, where there are many ways of making money, if you know what you are doing!
