Hi, I’m Jessy, short for Jessica. Join me and my husband Simon as we get ready to enter the new world of retirement.

So what does retirement mean to you?

It’s an interesting question because “retirement” means different things to different people.

By definition, it means withdrawal or retreat.  As millions of Americans start to think about and plan for their retirement, it becomes obvious we have completely reinvented the concept of retirement! We are now, facing potentially more than twenty years of retirement, and we are putting a good deal of time into deciding just how we want to spend our retirement, and where! We are using our retirement years to restructure priorities and fulfill our lifelong dreams.

When I was younger, retirement meant to me as basically stopping to go to work and being able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and not being worried about a lot of things. I suppose that is still true, to a certain extent.

Simon expressed the same opinion as well. It did not sound very complicated until after a few years when I joined him as a member of the AARP, and we realized it’s now time for us to look ahead for our future retirement.

We looked at each other and expected to find the same answer. But retiring is not a simple matter! It will be the final chapters of our life that we would like to enjoy and cherish! If nothing, retirement should be well-planned and smooth and worry-free.

Talk to you again next time!
